Brief
For this assignment I had to develop a depolarising intervention. The medium and deliverables were entirely open, as long as the work related to polarisation and ways to reduce it.
I decided to create a campaign that shakes people awake and makes them realise how their own actions can contribute to polarisation.
Brief
Tica organises free of charge electronic dance music events.
I was asked by Tica to create their visual materials for the September to December 2024 season. This included a calendar, line-up announcements, timetable content and posters.
They also asked me to create live event visuals for their final event of the season.
Concept
The concept starts from the quote: "Polarization grows in conflict, rapidity and distance.
and shrinks in curiosity, closeness and slowing things down"
From these words I extracted three opposites that together form the basis for three short animations that are connected both in content and visually.
The goal was not to address anyone personally, but to create something that everyone recognises and can relate to. This gave rise to the idea of using the iconic speech bubbles from a chat app, a recognisable symbol for the way we communicate with each other today.
Concept
Tica found me based on my instagram and requested the visual language to be inspired by visuals I had shared on Instagram.
For the line-up and timetable, I wanted to reflect the organic movement of the dance floor something dynamic and expressive.
Design
The three animations are structured so that together they form a whole, but each can also work independently.
Strong copy was essential here. Each animation ends with the same powerful closing line, followed by a solution that each time places a slightly different nuance, fitting the specific theme of the animation.
Design
I used a similar workflow to my Instagram projects, but adjusted the composition to make it feel more flowy and event-specific.
For the line-up, I created a generative animation in TouchDesigner.
For the timetable, I used a static frame from the same animation style.
The event visuals for the last party also followed this TouchDesigner process to keep everything consistent.
